The impending restructuring of the retail banking landscape is leading to many more opportunities for acquiring branch networks of other financial institutions, whether at fire sale prices from the FDIC, or in the course of normal economic conditions. The due diligence process does not always allow for comprehensive analysis, and determining the incremental value a network of competitor branches will provide to your network can be a complex process. This session will explore some of the tools and methods used by two banks to evaluate the impact that acquiring new sites have on their branch networks. Often, with little time to react, what are the things you can do in advance to determine whether an institution is worthy of consideration, and what short-cut analyses can be conducted when a conventional and comprehensive due diligence isn't possible.
