Rep. Scott Garrett R-N.J., Chairman of the Subcommittee on Capital Markets and Government-Sponsored Enterprises for the House Financial Services Committee

Rep. Scott Garrett has served as chairman of the House government-sponsored enterprise subcommittee since the Republicans took control of the chamber in 2010. He has been a leading advocate for reforming Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac as well as making other changes to the mortgage market, including promoting the use of covered bonds. He is a top critic of the Dodd-Frank Act, and has introduced legislation to stop the Financial Stability Oversight Council from designating nonbanks as systemically important.
