A Letter from the Conference Chair

A MESSAGE FROM OUR CONFERENCE CHAIR
Barrett Burns, President & CEO, VantageScore Solutions, LLC

While a new year often brings new promise, as 2010 opens, the credit and collections industries still face many of the same challenges of 2009.

Text Box: “…Indeed, as the U.S. economy moves from recession to recovery, credit and collections professionals must be ready to succeed in a new business climate, where tried-and-true rules have been rewritten.”The economic outlook for 2010 brings mixed forecasts.  While some economists predict 2010 will be a growth year, we’re still dealing with high unemployment that isn’t likely to abate soon.

Elevated delinquencies in credit card, mortgage and auto lending and a larger regulatory role for the federal government are also factors that will impact all of us in the year ahead. Indeed, as the U.S. economy moves from recession to recovery, credit and collections professionals must be ready to succeed in a new business climate, where tried-and-true rules have been rewritten.

Conventional wisdom holds that collections is a “recession-proof” industry, but 2009 showed that wasn’t always the case, as the industry faced many challenges, including  increased costs which compressed margins.  Meanwhile, many organizations were challenged to meet the demands of mortgage loan modification programs or handle an increase in placements across all debt sectors.

In 2010, you can arm yourself with the latest information and expertise from the industry’s best and brightest at the 14th Annual National Collections & Credit Risk Conference being held March 21-23 at the InterContinental Miami Hotel in Miami, Fl.

During my career, credit cycles have ebbed and flowed. Many of us are accustomed to hearing about everything from rising levels of risk to new opportunities in debt-buying and even prospective changes in the regulatory environment.  How we adapt to this volatile business environment will determine success or failure in the credit and collections industries.

By attending this year’s event, you’ll gain crucial understanding of industry trends and practices.  Importantly, you will also have the opportunity to engage with the panelists.

We’ll cover a wide range of topics at the conference, including:

  • New Credit Risk, Collections & Recovery Practices for a New Decade
  • Decrease Defaults with Untapped Customer Information
  • Next-Generation Credit Analysis
  • Facing a Regulatory Revolution – Insight to Help you Prepare

Please join me in Miami for an event that will serve as a forum for today’s key issues and will provide interaction with fellow lending and collections professionals. Past attendees say this conference offers “great insight of market overview” as well as “phenomenal networking opportunities.”  Be sure to reserve your place today.
