Best of Celent's 2013 Model Bank Awards

At Celent's Innovation and Insight Day last week in Boston, the research and consulting firm handed out 21 Model Bank Awards based on several criteria, including degree of innovation, business benefits derived and technology or integration excellence. These seven projects were the favorites of Sean Sposito, who attended the event.

The subsidiary of the Spanish banking company won an award for its infrastructure and architecture. As he presented the award, Celent senior banking analyst Bob Meara said, "Since entering the U.S. market in 2004, BBVA has demonstrated a commitment to excellence. It recently embarked on what could be a game changing initiative, migrating its legacy core system that served all commercial, wealth management and 716 retail branches to a modern real-time system from Accenture. The project cost totaled more than $360 million and is among the first successful infrastructure transformations by a major U.S. bank in more than 10 years." (Image: Bloomberg News)
