Bush asks lower credit card rates.

Bush Asks Lower Credit Card Rates

NEW YORK -- President Bush said Tuesday that he would like to see interest rates on credit cards come down as a way to boost consumer spending.

"I'd frankly like to see the credit card rates down," he said. "I believe that would help stimulate the consumer and get consumer confidence moving again."

Mr. Bush made the comment at a republican fund-raising luncheon, where he rejected calls for a "euphoric tax cut."

He acknowledged the economic signals are mixed but added that lower interest rates would "kick in and boost this sagging consumer confidence."
