The Michigan Supreme Court last month declined to hear an appeal of a state appellate court decision in a lawsuit that sought to restore a $230 million general assistance program to the state's fiscal 1992 budget.

The appellate court decision had reversed an Ingham County Circuit Court ruling that reinstated the program after finding the state had erred in the way officials notified the program's 80,000 recipients that it would be ended Oct. 1.
