Charles Bradford, Chief Economist Of Credit Union Agency, Dead at 63

Charles H. Bradford, the chief economist of the National Credit Union Administration, died of cancer Wednesday in Arlington, Va. He was 63.

Mr. Bradford joined the credit union agency in 1986 after serving nine years as assistant staff director of the congressional Joint Economic Committee.

He was also economic adviser at the American Bankers Association for 10 years, an assistant to former Sen. Wallace Bennett of Utah, and a staff member of the Senate Banking Committee.

A native of Salt Lake City, Mr. Bradford earned a master's degree from the University of Utah and a doctorate from Harvard University.

Presidential Award

Mr. Bradford, who had muscular dystrophy since his teenage years, won a Presidential Award for Outstanding Federal Employees with Disabilities.

When Marilyn Quayle, the Vice President's wife, presented his award at a ceremony last year, Mr. Bradford did a wheelie in his wheelchair.

His is survived by his wife, Mary, two sons, a daughter, and four grandchildren.
