Deposits Shrink at Thrifts

WASHINGTON - Deposits at 2,477 thrifts insured by the Savings Association Insurance Fund shrank to $806.2 billion in April, the Office of Thrift Supervision reported.

The industry lost $10.6 billion in net over-the-counter withdrawals, the largest monthly outflow in a year. Core deposits - accounts of under $100,000 - accounted for $9.2 billion of the total.
