Anne Szostak to Head Fleet's Unit in Maine

Anne Szostak has been elected chairman, president, and chief executive officer of Fleet Bank of Maine, Portland, a unit of Fleet/Norstar Financial Group.

Ms. Szostak's previous titles were president and chief operating officer.

The former chairman and chief executive, Roger J. Castonguay, died on March 25.

Ms. Szostak is responsible for the integration and consolidation of New Maine National Bank, which was part of Bank of New England Corp., into Fleet Bank of Maine. The Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. completed the sale of Bank of New England to Fleet/Norstar on July 14.

Fleet Bank of Maine is the state's largest, with $3.5 billion in assets, 140 branches, and 2,000 employees. In February, Ms. Szostak engineered its purchase of the $1.27 billion-asset Maine Savings Bank from the FDIC.
