Fixed-Rate Mortgage Increases to 9.98%

WASHINGTON - The average 30-year fixed-rate mortgage had an interest rate of 9.98% for the week that ended July 26, up from 9.54% the previous week, the Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corp. said.

The average adjustable-rate mortgage was 8.41%, up slightly from 7.23%.

Lenders charged an average of 2% in fees and points on fixed-rate loans, unchanged from the previous week. They charged 2.1% in fees and points on adjustable-rate mortgages, up from 1.9%.
