Sherman Raised To Presidency Of Eastland

Merrill W. Sherman has been elected president of Eastland Financial Corp., Woonsocket, R.I., and its subsidiaries, Eastland Bank and Eastland Savings Bank.

Ms. Sherman, a former partner of the Providence law firm of Hinckley, Allen, Snyder & Comen, joined the bank holding company in January as executive vice president and chief general counsel.

Donat A. Fournier has been elected senior executive vice president of the holding company and subsidiaries. Herbert L. Miller continues as chairman and chief executive officer.

While at the law firm, Ms. Sherman represented lenders in the closing, administration, and workout of secured and unsecured loans, with particular emphasis on construction and permanent mortgage loans.

Mr. Fournier had been serving as executive vice president of the holding company since January 1990 and assumed responsibility for the day-to-day operations of the bank in the chairman's absence. As manager of the commercial mortgage and commercial loan departments, he recognized those areas.
