How to Apply for a Job at the RTC

Most positions with the Resolution Trust Corp. are staffed directly at the regional level, and each office has its own recruitment style.

In California, local papers carry advertisements. The Dallas office gets plenty of applications without raising a finger, but also participates in government job fairs during the year.

And the Northeast headquarters in Somerset, N.J., continues to fill vacancies from campaigns that seek out retired bankers.

Almost all offices agree, however, that the applicant must target a specific position to be seriously considered.

"We advertise in the Orange County Register and the Los Angeles Times Southbay edition," said Linda Soucie, administrative assistant in Costa Mesa, Calif., RTC office.

"You must apply for a job that is specifically listed - we do not take unsolicited resumes."

Finding Out About Positions

For job seekers who want to gather more information about the types of positions available with the RTC, job fairs sponsored by the U.S. Office of Personnel Management and trade groups such as the Federal Women Employees Association are a good bet, since they often include recruiters from the RTC.

Or job seekers can simply call the personnel office of their local RTC office and request a current job listing and an FS171 form, which must be filled out by all applicants.

Equal Opportunity

"We are a strong supporter of EEO [Equal Employment Opportunity], and veterans get some extra consideration," said Michael LaBella, a full-time government employee who heads up the equal opportunity employment and ethics functions for the RTC in Costa Mesa.

"Our workers come from banks, S&Ls, and also from some failed institutions, depending upon the circumstances."
