U.K. Bank Pays BCCI Depositors in Kenya

NAIROBI -- Standard Chartered PLC's Kenya unit has paid about $1.5 million to depositors on behalf of the Bank of Credit and Commerce International.

"Kenya's BCCI branch has so far given us about 30 million shillings to pay its former depositors," a Standard Chartered official told Reuters.

"Depositors are withdrawing in large numbers," he said.

BCCI Kenya was bought on Aug. 5 by the London-based Dolphin Group, and its name was changed to Delphis Bank Ltd.
