OTS Taps Hurley To Head Resolutions

The Office of Thrift Supervision has named Mark P. Hurley to head the division responsible for reviewing resolutions of savings and loans.

As director of resolutions, a new position, Mr. Hurley will head the agency's Accelerated Resolution Program, a joint effort with the Resolution Trust Corp. to find buyers for failing S&Ls before they have to be put in conservatorship. About 30 thrifts are currently candidates for the program, with the OTS handling the marketing efforts.

Mr. Hurley, who formerly worked with Goldman, Sachs & Co., joined the OTS in May 1990 and most recently was a special assistant to T. Timothy Ryan Jr., director of the agency. Mr. Hurley will continue to report to Mr. Ryan, advising him on bank and thrift resolutions.

Mr. Hurley is also on an OTS team that supervises the 14 largest troubled thrifts. It is developing resolution strategies that include early intervention.
