Chase Promotes 4 to Executive VP

Chase Manhattan Corp. named four executive vice presidents on Thursday, increasing to 17 the number of officials at Chase with that title.

The newly anointed officials recently assumed top posts in Chase's treasury, risk management, private banking, and credit-quality areas.

Reporting to President

Arjun K. Mathrani, 46, was named treasurer in June, replacing Howard Atkins, a senior vice president who left the bank last week. Mr. Mathrani, a 22-year Chase veteran, reports to the bank's chief financial officer, Michael P. Esposito.

Mark. B. Grier, 39, has run foreign exchange, bullion, and options and swaps operations for about one year. He joined the bank in 1989, and reports to Chase's president, Arthur P. Ryan.

Also reporting to Mr. Ryan is James W. Zeigon, 44, who took the reins of Chase's private banking division in December. He joined Chase in 1976.

Ernest M. Kruse, 47, has taken a new post monitoring asset quality and product risk for corporate finance activities. He joined Chase in 1971.
