Yields on Treasuries

Yields on Treasuries fell in September, but bank bond rates did not keep pace. Spreads on many bank bonds relative to Treasuries have widened as investors have fretted about banks' profitability.

Citicorp's 9% subordinated capital notes due in 1999 traded at a yield of 220 basis points over Treasuries in early September, but they were changing hands at about 240 basis points over Treasuries on Friday, one capital markets specialist said.
