Newark honors N.J. bank for reinvestment.

National Community Bank of New Jersey has been given the City of Newark's first award for outstanding achievement in banking.

The prize, to be awarded annually, was presented to National Community's chairman and chief executive officer, Robert M. Kossick, by McKinley Howell, the city's director of economic development programs.

The Maywood-based banking company, which has $3.6 billion in deposits, was cited for "dedicated commitment and continued involvement in community reinvestment."

Despite having only one branch in Newark, National Community "has made every effort to play an active role in the city's community reinvestment needs," Mr. Howell said.
