Military Families Sign Up And Boost Total Savings

Despite base closings and cutbacks in military personnel, the nation's 344 defense credit unions are holding the fort - and more.

According to the Defense Credit Union Council, institutions that serve the military gained 30,000 members in 1990. The group's recently released annual report also found that savings at the credit unions jumped 7.4% to $29 billion, assets grew by more than $2 billion to $32.5 billion, and gross income increased 7.3% to $3.3 billion.
