Maxwell Will Lead Chase Mutual Funds

Chase Manhattan Bank on Monday named W. Christopher Maxwell to a newly created position, president of its mutual fund businesses.

Mr. Maxwell, who will run Vista Capital Management, had been in charge of investment banking and institutional investment management at Chase Lincoln First, the parent company's upstate New York affiliate. He joined the company from Citibank in 1982.

Mr. Maxwell, 48, also was appointed chief investment officer in Chase's regional banking division. He will coordinate the investments of private banking and trust customers at Chase Lincoln First, Chase Manhattan Bank of Connecticut, and Chase Bank of Arizona.

Vista, which has $1.8 billion in assets under management, markets 14 mutual funds under the Vista and Trinity names through the bank's branches. It also is trying to distribute them through brokers and other third parties.
