Municipal Bond investors Assurance Corp. and Capital Reinsurance Co. this week; announced the results of their annual contribution to Westchester County, N.Y., charities, which they base on the slugging performance of New York Yankee Don Mattingly.
MBIA pledged $100 for every hit the first baseman managed during the 1992 baseball season, and Capital Re promised $200 for each run he batted in.
Mattingly, who had the best average on the Yankees' starting lineup and the most runs batted in, generated $18,400 from MBIA for hi 184 hits and $17,200 from Capital Re for 86 runs batted in.
The money was donated to the Westchester Association for Retarded Citizens and Westchester-Putnam Special Olympics.
This is the seventh season MBIA has been involved in the program, bringing its total contribution since 1986 to $134,500. Capital Re has been involved for four years, with a total contribution of $42,800.
Mattingly is also honorary chairman of the MBIA Invitational golf and tennis tournament, which has raised more than $1 million for the charities over the past eight years.
