Head of NationsBank in Ga. steps down.

Atlanta - William J. Vanlandingham, 56, who has battled cancer for several years, said he will step down as president of Nationsbank of Georgia. His successor is James R. Lientz Jr., 50, president of NationsBank of South Carolina.

Both Mr. Vanlandingham and Mr. Lientz had been executives with Atlanta-based C&S/Sovran Corp. before it was acquired last year by Charlotte, N.c.-based NCNB Corp., now Nationsbank Corp.

Joel A. Smith 3d, president of Nationsbank Carolinas, will assume Mr. Lientz's duties in South Carolina. Mr. Vanlandingham, who spent 26 years with Citizens and Southern Corp., will remain with NationsBank of Georgia "in a senior banking executive role," the company said.

Mr. Lientz also spent 26 years with Citizens, becoming president of its South Carolina subsidiary in 1990.
