Newspaper promoter plans credit cards.

WELLESLEY, Mass. - Affinity Card Inc., which develops "frequent reader" programs to promote newspaper subscriptions, said it plans to offer credit card programs and perhaps related banking products to its newspaper clients.

The company said it is "accepting proposals" from banks to issue credit cards. The service would enhance Affinity's proprietary newspaper card, which is given to readers who pay for subscriptions in advance and allows them to get discounts at participating retail stores and restaurants.

Working with several major newspapers, Affinity said it expects to have issued one million frequent-reader credit cards by the end of 1993.
