Shares in Bankers Trust New York Corp. slipped $1.875, to $63.25, on Tuesday while most bank shares traded in a narrow range. Wells Fargo & Co. rose $1.25, to $70.375, spurred for a second day by rumors that investor Warren Buffett plans to increase his stake.
Wells had gained $4 on Monday.
Among thrifts, shares in Washington Mutual Savings Bank rose $3.75, to $29.125.
Beth Johnson, a self-described math geek, is driving the bank's ESG strategy and training its employees to keep pace with industry trends.
