AmBase's earnings are $2.3 million.

GREENWICH, Conn. - AmBase Corp., the parent of Carteret Savings Bank of New Jersey, said it earned $2.3 million, or 5 cents a share, in the third quarter, compared with a net loss of $11.7 million, or 30 cents a share, last year.

For the first nine months, AmBase earned $7.8 million, or 19 cents a share, after losing $128.4 million, or $3.35 a share. in the 1991 period.

The 1992 nine-month results included a $168 million charge for Carteret's losses on loans and real estate, and a gain of $56 million realized in the tender offers and repurchase of certain AmBase debt securities associated with the sale of Home Insurance Co.

Meanwhile, Carteret reported a pretax profit of $3.7 million in the third quarter, compared with a pretax loss of $7.3 million in the same quarter in 1991. The thrift has registered a pretax profit increase in each of the past four quarters.
