Maryland.

Gov. William Donald Schaefer is in Europe through Friday to promote foreign investment in Maryland and the Port of Baltimore. The governor's travels include stops in Ljubljana, Slovenia; Heidelberg, Germany; London; and several sites in Italy.

"We will be making calls on several firms which have been doing business in Maryland and encouraging them to expand their operations here," Gov. Schaefer said before the trip.

"In addition, we hope to establish a new government-to-government relationship with the emerging democracy of the Republic of Slovenia and encourage them to do some important business with us."
