Washington State Treasurer Daniel K. Grimm and Oregon Treasurer Tony Meeker are sponsoring an organizational meeting Jan. 11 and 12 at the Westin Hotel in Seattle to launch the National Association of Public Pension Fund Trustees, according to Lyle Jacobsen, assistant treasurer of Washington.

The treasurers aim to organize an independent, member-financed association to educate and train trustees, with a focus on asset management. At the moment, there is no organization designed solely for public pension fund trustees.

Grimm and Meeker have been working during the past few months to gain support for such an organization. So far, about 400 to 500 prospective members have been invited to the organizational meeting, Jacobsen said.
