Barclays may divide CEO, chairman jobs.

LONDON -- Barclays Bank PLC, the largest in Britain, is keeping "under review" whether its chairman-designate, chief executive Andrew Buxton, will retain his current duties next year.

A spokesman said it might not be practical in a group the size of Barclays to combine the two responsibilities.

Banking sources said a few of Barclay's institutional shareholders had voiced concern over Mr. Buxton's taking both jobs.

Mr. Buxton was appointed chief executive on April 30 and plans were announced for him to add the chairman's role next year.
