Citibank to offer SONYMA mortgages.

NEW YORK - Citibank said it had signed a new agreement with the State of New York Mortgage Agency to provide low-interest home financing in the New York metropolitan area.

Citibank has not actively offered SONYMA loans in recent years.

Terms, set by the agency, are designed to meet the needs of low-income and moderate-income people. The current terms through the Citicorp unit include a 30-year loan at 6.5% for the first three years and 7.9% for the balance of the term, with down payments of 5% on one-family and two-family homes and 10% on larger homes.

The below-market rates and low down payments are designed to make home ownership affordable, especially for first-time buyers.
