Southern National is shifting operations.

LUMBERTON, N.C. - Southern National Corp. said it had begun consolidation of commercial loan operations in Lumberton, where branch banking and other operations are centered. Previously, individual banking offices had done their own processing.

The move will add about 33 jobs in Lumberton over the next several months, bank officials said, but the expansion will be offset by reductions elsewhere in the company.

Dolli Adams, senior vice president and director of branch banking, will head the consolidated commercial division as well as consumer operations.

Southern National, which has $4.5 billion in assets, recently decided to move its lead bank's headquarters to Winston-Salem while keeping the holding company in Lumberton. Credit card, deposit, consumer loan, and retail credit operations are also in Lumberton.
