Columbia Banking seized in New York.

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Federal regulators seized Columbia Banking Federal Savings and Loan Association last week and put it under conservatorship of the Resolution Trust Corp.

Columbia has $1.47 billion in assets and 24 branches.

The Office of Thrift Supervision said Friday that Columbia Banking "had insufficient capital, with no prospect of replenishment without federal assistance."
