BB&T completes purchase of Peoples.

WILSON, N.C. - BB&T Financial Corp. said it has completed its acquisition of Peoples Federal Savings Bank of Thomasville, N.C.

Peoples Federal has $107 million in assets and operates two offices in Thomasville. It converted from a mutual to a stock-holder-owned institution in preparation for the takeover.

BB&T issued and sold 382,395 shares of common stock in connection with the conversion and acquisition.

Peoples Federal is the sixth thrift acquired by BB&T since 1990. The thrift acquisitions have added approximately $1.3 billion in assets and 29 offices to BB&T, which has $6.5 billion in assets and 217 offices.
