Chase's Connecticut unit farming out check processing to Fiserv.

Chase Manhattan Bank of Connecticut has decided to outsource nearly all of it's check processing operation.

Fiserv Inc., based in Milwaukee, will do the $2.2 billion-asset Connecticut bank's processing in a New Haven data center. The Chase Manhattan Corp. subsidiary generates about 1.9 million items a month.

While Chase, like other money-center banks, generally does its own data processing, it has previously outsourced operations of acquired banks. In late 1991, Chase outsourced the then newly-acquired Connecticut unit's data processing work to International Business Machines Corp. Chase's Arizona bank similarly relies on a unit of Milwaukee-based Marshall & Ilsley Corp.
