Most major bank stocks lost ground on Thursday as the market overall endured a losing session. Shares of BankAmerica Corp., San Francisco, slipped $1, to $47,875, while those of Wachovia Corp., Winston-Salem, N.C., fell 87.5 cents to $64.75.

Shares of PNC Financial Corp. were weak on speculation it may be mulling a major acquisition, perhaps CoreStates Financial Corp., Philadelphia. Its shares were down $1.125 to $51.875 in afternoon trading.
