Gilleran nomination to OCC set.

James E. Gilleran, as expected, will be nominated to head the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, President Bush said Thursday.

Mr. Gilleran, a staunch Republican who has been the California banking superintendent since 1989, must be confirmed by the Senate. He is a former president of the Commonwealth Group and managing partner of KPMG Peat Marwick in San Francisco.

Mr. Gilleran, 59, would succeed Robert L. Clarke, who resigned in February after failing to win Senate confirmation for a second term.
