Wachovia S.C. unit gets president.

Wachovia Corp.'s chief financial officer, Anthony L. Furr, has been named president, chief operating officer, and a director of its South Carolina National Corp. subsidiary.

Mr. Furr, 48, had been CFO of Winston-Salem, N.C.-based Wachovia since 1990. Previously, he headed Wachovia's international group and ran one of its North Carolina regions.

A 23-year Wachovia veteran, Mr. Furr is considered among the potential candidates to replace Wachovia's chairman and chief executive, John G. Medlin Jr., who is scheduled to retire within four years.

Replacing Mr. Furr as chief financial officer is Robert S. McCoy, 53, currently executive vice president and comptroller.

Mr. McCoy, 53, had been South Carolina National's president before its merger with Wachovia last year.

He had also served as chief financial officer and vice chairman of South Carolina National Bank, which he joined in 1984 following a career at Price Waterhouse.
