MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. - Sun Microsystems Computer Corp. said Mitsubishi Bank of Japan has designed and installed a trading system connecting its 300 branches with the dealing room.

Sun and its Japanese affiliate. Nihon Sun Microsystems, said the system is the first in Japan that effectively extends trading capabilities to the branch banking level.

The system is built around Sun workstation and server technology - 100 Sparcstation 2's for traders and two Sparcserver 490s - plus a Sybase relational data base and Japanese Open Windows software.

Multiple Uses

The foreign exchange and international treasury division of Mitsubishi, the sixth-largest Japanese bank with $392 billion in assets, uses the system for spot and forward transactions, futures, swaps, and other complex trades.

In 1989. Mitsubishi's dealing room became the first among Japanese banks with a workstation-supported, large-scale dealing system,,. with more than 300 Sparcstations installed.
