Wachovia names Furr to South Carolina post.

Anthony L. Furr, a longtime executive with Wachovia Corp., Winston-Salem, N.C., will assume the presidency of its newly acquired South Carolina National Corp. subsidiary on Sept. 1. He will also become chief operating officer and a director.

Mr. Furr is now chief financial officer and an executive vice president of Wachovia.

Robert S. McCoy will succeed him as chief financial officer. Mr. McCoy, Wachovia's comptroller and an executive vice president, assumed those positions early this year.

He was previously president of Columbia-based South Carolina National Corp., which he joined in 1984, and chief financial officer and vice chairman of South Carolina National Bank. Both became units of Wachovia in December.

Mr. Furr joined Wachovia in 1969. He was named to his current position in 1990. His assignments have included opening and managing Wachovia's New York Edge Act bank; heading the international group; and executive in charge of the North Carolina bank's Piedmont Triad region, with responsibility for banking offices in 17 cities.
