WILMINGTON, Del. -- Robert J. Callander, a former president and vice chairman of Chemical Banking Corp., was elected to the board of Beneficial Corp.
Mr. Callander, 61, retired from Chemical July 31 after 35 years at the New york bank. He was one of its three presidents before rising to vice chairman in 1987.
Also named a Beneficial director was Roland A. Hernandez, president of Interspan Communications, Los Angeles.
The top five banks and thrifts have combined total assets of nearly $13 trillion.
