Primerica offering Visa card to users of Quicken software.

A new credit card issued jointly by Primerica Corp. and a software company will allow cardholders to receive electronic statements on their personal computers.

The Visa credit card will be marketed to users of Quicken, a popular software package marketed by Intuit, based in Menlo Park, Calif.

New York-based Primerica said the credit card, issued in conjunction with Intuit, would appeal to the same kind of upscale customer the bank has been aiming for in its credit card business.

The Quicken program, which has about three million users, allows users to balance their checking accounts and track their investments, loans, deposits, and other financial transactions on their personal computer.

A Compatible Group

Primerica, which has a cardholder base of 400,000, mainly markets a gold card to customers with over $35,000 in annual income, and offers an affinity card with the American Bar Association.

"The Intuit customer base is the kind we like to have carrying our credit card," said Ron Rogers, assistant vice president of marketing at Primerica.

"They're upscale, professional, the type of people who are really interested in trying new products and services. There's a great deal of loyalty between Intuit and its customers."

Test Marketing Done

Primerica has already issued 3,000 Intuit credit cards in a test marketing program.

Quicken is one of the top-selling programs for personal computers, with three million users.

In addition to a paper statement, a Quicken customer will receive either a diskette or data via a modern that details credit card charges. The electronic statement also puts charges in categories so customers can review their budgets, and see how much they have spent for dining, for travel and entertainment, or for clothing.

"We're automating the financial linkages between the consumer and the bank," said Lisa Rogers, product manager for Intuit.
