DES MOINES -- Shareholders of Ames Financial Corp. have approved its proposed acquisition by Brenton Banks Inc., Brenton announced.
Brenton had agreed to exchange 1.358 of its common shares for each of Ames, which owns Ames Savings Bank and has $107 million in assets. Brenton said it would complete the transaction on Oct. 1.
The top five banks and thrifts had combined assets of more than $13 trillion as of December 31, 2023.

The two regional banks are anticipating that borrower demand will increase in the back half of the year. High interest rates and economic uncertainty have been muting the appetite for borrowing.
