1st Los Angeles names Pesce chief executive.

Oliviero Pesce has been named chief executive officer of the $1 billion-asset First Los Angeles Bank, a subsidiary of the San Paolo Banking Group, Turin, Italy.

Thomas J. Kempf has been appointed president of the bank.

They succeed Mauro Cicchine, who had held these positions since 1986. Mr. Cicchine, who is also an executive vice president of the parent organization, will be returning to Europe as area manager for central Italy and will be residing in Rome.

Mr. Pesce joins the bank following 10 years as chief financial officer of Crediop, a subsidiary of the San Paolo Banking Group.

Mr. Kempf, who previously was senior executive vice president, chief operating officer, and a director of First Los Angeles Bank, was one of the bank's founders in 1973.

"The new organizational structure will ensure that the bank's strategic and business growth goals continue during the |90s," said Mr. Cicchine, observing that First Los Angeles Bank had grown nearly 50% over the past five years.

MIDWEST

The Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago has promoted four members of its staff.

They are: A. Raymond Bacon, to assistant vice president in the supervision and regulation, and loans department; Dara L. Hunt, to assistant vice president in the Federal Reserve System's securities product office; Elizabeth Knospe, to assistant vice president and assistant general counsel in the legal department; and Jeffrey B. Marcus, to assistant vice president in the management services department.

MIDDLE ATLANTIC

Danielson Associates Inc., Rockville, Md., said Cynthia J. Stanaro and Alan P. Carruthers have joined the financial services consulting firm as vice presidents.

Ms. Stanaro, who specializes in budgeting and cost analysis, spent seven years at Bank of America in San Francisco. As a vice president and manager for this superregional's domestic money transfer operations, Ms. Stanaro was responsible for the entire domestic operations, including budgeting, planning, and management.

Mr. Carruthers, who will work in the area of financial advisory services, has spent the last 10 years as an investment banker and consultant to the financial services industry. Most recently, he was senior vice president of the Secura Group in Washington.

Signet Bank, Baltimore, promoted Gail H. Sanders to vice president in the public affairs department, where she is responsible for media relations, community outreach and community reinvestment efforts, corporate contributions, and communications.

Francis C. Broccolino has been appointed loan-risk analyst officer in the residential real estate construction department, where he analyzes the status of real estate and construction projects.

SOUTHEAST

Northern Trust Bank, Naples, Fla., has promoted trust officer Jeffrey P. Leedy to manager of the tax department. He is responsible for supervising the preparation of all client tax returns.

J.I. Kislak Mortgage Corp., Miami Lakes, Fla., has hired Joe Martinez as vice president and regional manager for its South Florida retail production divisions.

He is a 25-year veteran of the mortgage banking industry. Before joining Kislak, Mr. Martinez was president of United Lenders Assurance Inc., a subsidiary of Hamilton Risk Management.

Republic National Bank, Miami, has named Eugene B. Pesant vice president for corporate lending. He will concentrate in business development and handle key corporate relationships.

Mr. Pesant previously worked at Florida First National Bank/First Union National Bank of Florida, where he was vice president and manager of the private banking unit.

Third National Bank in Nashville announced the following promotions:

Brad Dunlavy in the trust and investment management division and Deborah Story in the human resources department have been promoted to vice president. Ms. Story also becomes manager of employment and recruiting.

Named vice presidents were: Joyce Brand, in the installment loan operations, Sandy Hollihan, in retail banking at the Belle Meade office, and Ann Kendall, in retail banking at the East Nashville office.

Zackie Sanderson has been appointed assistant vice president in financial management.

Named commercial officers were: David Cropp at the Bellevue office, Angela Dobbins at the Madison office, Jim Gardner at the West Nashville office, Cindy Hawkins at the Carthage office, Jennifer Henry at the Nashville main office, Thomas Kilcrease in metro banking, Carol Norris at the Nolensville Road office, Dori Sawyer at the Smyrna office, Michelle Smalling at the main office, Gail Vincent at the Carthage office, and Donna Youngblood at the Murfreesboro University office. Ms. Youngblood is also branch manager.

Promoted to trust officers were Jeanette Kelso, in the trust and investment management division and Elmore Inscoe, in personal trust division.

Mary Cordwell has been named a mortgage loan officer in the residential mortgage lending division.
