NEW YORK -- H. Eugene Lockhart, a former senior executive with Midland Bank of London, has been named executive vice president of First Manhattan Consulting Group and president of an international consulting unit that the firm is forming.
Mr. Lockhart, 42, had worked at First Manhattan before joining Midland in 1987 as the main board executive director.
The first foreigner to hold such a position at a major British bank, he rose to chief executive of United Kingdom banking and group operations, overseeing 41,000 employees.
Areas of Responsibility
He was also chairman of the London Clearing House for Automated Payments, or Chaps, and as a director of MasterCard International.
First Manhattan, whose clients include more than 30 of the 50 largest U.S. banking companies, said Mr. Lockhart would focus on the consumer and operations-related areas he managed at Midland, including credit and debit cards, insurance, investments, cash management, and global custody.
James M. McCormick, president of First Manhattan Consulting, praised Mr. Lockhart's work at Midland, crediting him with reengineering "most of the businesses he led."
A resident of Greenwich, Conn., Mr. Lockhart earned a mechanical engineering degree from the University of Virginia and an MBA from the university's Darden Graduate School. He is also a certified public accountant.
