HOBOKEN, N.J. - Washington Bancorp said it was in preliminary negotiations that could lead to its acquisition by an another financial institution. The name of the potential acquirer was not disclosed.
Washington Bancorp said that its board had not made any definitive decision to "alter our course of remaining independent."
The company said it did not plan to comment further on the negotiations until it reached either a final agreement to merge or a decision to end the talks.
