Braintree Savings calls off merger talks.

BRAINTREE, Mass. -- The Braintree Savings Bank said it was no longer holding merger discussions. The thrift, which has $178 million of assets, announced on Sept. 28 that it had "conducted preliminary merger discussions with an unnamed bank." In a press release Thursday, chairman Winthrop Sargent 4th said the companies were "unable to reach agreement as to terms."
