P.O.S. deal gives Mellon desk help.

P.O.S. Systems Inc., a Tempe, Ariz., point of sale management firm, signed multiyear contract to provide desk support for Mellon Bank Corp.'s 17,000 member merchant base.

The contract calls for P.O.S. to provide after-hours, weekend, and holiday desk support. Additional support functions might be outsourced to P.O.S. in the future, according to both companies.

With more than $31 billion in assets, Mellon Bank is a superregional bank holding company with subsidiaries that provide wholesale, retail, and middle market banking.
