Star Banc to put ATMs in Wal-Mart stores.

Star Banc Corp. has become the second midwestern superregional to announce an agreement to place automated teller machines in Wal-Mart and Sam's Club stores.

The $7.5 billion-asset parent of Cincinnati-based Star Bank said Friday that it will put a machine in each of 36 Ohio and Kentucky locations of Wal-Mart Stores Inc.

The installations, in Cleveland, Cincinnati, Dayton, and smaller cities, will be made over the next 10 months.

Star's announcement comes about five months after Boatmen's Bancshares Inc. of St. Louis said it would place ATMS in 150 Wal-Mart stores in nine states.

Star, which has about 300 ATMs and until recently was active in negotiations to form a multistate ATM consortium in the Midwest, said Sept. 21 that it intends to enter a strategic alliance with Electronic Payment Services Inc.
