Denver bank signs Safeway ATM deal.

DENVER -- First Interstate Bank of Denver said its Minibank subsidiary has signed an agreement to lease and operate automated teller machines in Safeway supermarkets.

The Safeway locations will add 88 ATMs to Minibank, bringing its total to 248 and making it the second-largest regional ATM network in Colorado.

First Interstate has focused its ATM-sharing strategy on institutions with few or no branches, and has 68 members, said Frances Draper, president of Minibank Switch Network. She pointed out that most ATM networks in the state are owned by out-of-state holding companies.

Earlier this year, Minibank signed an agreement to own and operate ATMs at Total Petroleum locations in the Denver area.
