Banc One deal in Illinois gets Fed nod.

WASHINGTON -- The Federal Reserve has approved the application of Banc One Corp. of Columbus, Ohio, and Banc One Illinois Corp. of Springfield, Ill., to acquire Mid States Bancshares, Moline, Ill., and thereby indirectly acquire First National Bank of Moline.

Banc One, with total deposits of $59.2 billion, controls banking subsidiaries in Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, Wisconsin, Illinois, and nine other states. Its Illinois subsidiary is the state's ninth largest commercial banking organization, controlling deposits of $3.3 billion - 2.3% of the Illinois total.

Mid States in the 117th largest commercial banking organization in Illinois, controlling deposits of $165.2 million.
