Ark. firm offers banks system on PC.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - In a move to meet growing customer demand for more flexible processing solutions, Arkansas Systems is now offering its electronic banking software on personal computers.

Little Rock-based Arkansas Systems has previously specialized in developing software that runs mainly on the International Business Machines AS/400 mid-range computer. Thurston Anderson, Arkansas Systems' vice president, said that the company will continue to offer the AS/400 line, but he added that the PC-based solution is designed to serve banks that want to offer a wide range of electronic banking services to their customers using low-cost PC hardware.

Many Applications

The range of applications now available from Arkansas Systems on the PC-based Integrated Transaction Management software includes automated teller machine management, ATM shared networking, point of sale management, telephone banking, business banking, and teller terminals.

Additionally, check processing data can be integrated into the software for delivering information and services to all business levels.

Two Arkansas Systems clients have installed pieces of its PC-based solution overseas. Mezhcombank, one of the largest financial institutions in Moscow, installed the ATM management software so that a fast-food chain doing business in Russia could pay its 300 Moscow employees through ATMs.

In Bolivia, Banco de La Paz has installed a PC-based switch that enhances its customer ATM access.

Voice Recognition

In the United States, Wilson Bank and Trust of Lebanon, a community bank in Tennessee is in the midst of installing Arkansas Systems' PC-based telephone banking application with voice recognition capabilities. According to Steve Holt, Wilson bank assistant vice president, the new software will complement its existing systems.

Its general banking system comes from Monett, Mo.-based Jack Henry & Associates, and runs on an AS/400.
