Logica to set up Nigerian network.

Logica PLC has been commissioned by the Central Bank of Nigeria to plan and implement a new computer infrastructure and telecommunications network.

The contract was awarded after a strategy study conducted by Logica and Touche Ross Consultancy in late 1991. It identified the lack of an effective telecommunications infra structure in Nigeria as the main technical problem.

The Central Bank of Nigeria operates as a bank to the government and the financial community. It manages domestic and foreign monetary policy, banking supervision, clearing, currency management, and foreign exchange policy.

A satellite network will be linked to new or refurbished public automatic branch exchanges, local area networks, and computer systems at the bank's offices. The initial network will form the platform for a national banking system with international links. The overall implementation will take place over a five-year period.

Logica PLC is an international software, systems, and consultancy company, headquartered in London.
